When we were alerted that Policy was missing from our Bottomless Brunch Guide, we looked at each other incredulously saying “No, we’ve been there for brunch right?” “Of course we have” “We must have written about this already”. But we hadn’t been for brunch and we didn’t even know they served bottomless drinks, despite this being in our rotation of go-to happy hours. We immediately made reservations and went the following Sunday. Joined by our favorite DIY Contributor, Kiki, we set out to eat our way through their brunch menu, all for your benefit of course.
We started with Bloody Marys, which were definitely a highlight. The mix is made in-house and was described to us as a sort of homemade V8 juice. They start with roma tomatoes, red peppers, onions, and celery cooked for two hours and then blend into a juice. It’s seasoned with horseradish, black pepper, smoked salt, and tabasco. They’re a little chunkier than expected at first, but we were happy to be simultaneously getting our vitamins and drunk. Also, if you’re not super hungry, you may want to switch to mimosas after your first Mary.
Our favorite dish was the shrimp and grits. They’re made with asiago cheese which is what seemed to take them to the next level. If you are set on ordering something else, we recommend you still order the asiago grits for your side.
Another must-try is the beignets. The five little powdered-sugar-doused donuts are served warm and perfect for sharing. They are served with coconut cream that is more creamy than coconut-y but we were ok with this. We ordered them for the table to satisfy the AM sweet tooth and still get the egg dishes we wanted. They come in a set of five, which left one lonely beignet that we very diplomatically cut into quarters.
If your table is feeling especially friendly, the sliders are another one that’s good to share. Policy is known to do a good slider, and we are happy they included a good variety on their brunch menu. We got some topped with adorable little quail eggs!
The Bottom Line: We’re so glad we finally tried Policy’s brunch. This will definitely be a a reliable brunch go-to! The large variety of their brunch menu ensures that everyone will want at least two dishes so sharing is a great strategy. Between the hearty bloody marys and the large selection of meaty options definitely consider Policy when you’re hurting from a hangover.
