Halloween is about to approach fast and Sydney and I are pretty into Halloween. Into dressing up, anyway. Usually we do some type of couples’ costume that is either tech-related or food-related. The night itself is tame; we snap a photo and walk around town enough to gather a sufficient amount of compliments then head home.
We’ve dressed up together for the last four years, so this year we want to continue that tradition, but *hopefully* not the tradition of waiting until the very last minute to make the costumes! I sort of started browsing Pinterest, but haven’t been inspired just yet. In the meantime, I’ve been reminiscing about years passed to get in the spirit. Check out our costumes if you need a little spooky inspiration….
2011: Hashtag and Retweet
This was our most out-there year and biggest nerd alert. We cut out the hashtag and retweet icons from felt and put our Twitter usernames on the back of Twitter-blue tees. Just to be clear and add flair, we cut out Twitter birds and mounted them on hair clips for our headpiece. This one we did have to explain to people though.
2012: Fork and Spoon
This was one of my favorites because it was so recognizable. This year we went to BYT’s Night at the Newseum and throughout the night people would wave at us calling out, “FORK AND SPOOOON!!” which was fun.
2013: Champagne and Orange Juice
This one we used as a conversation starter to tell people about our blog. It was funny when we were walking down H Street halloween night and passersby would look at us trying to figure out what we were doing, then as we passed, turn their heads calling out, “Ohhh, Mimosa!” Our headpieces were a proud artistic moment for me, especially my cork hat constructed from flexible cork board from Michael’s.
2014: Google Maps
This was a Pinterest find that came up by searching something like “nerdy couples’ costumes.” Our headpieces were location pins and our t-shirts were streets made from colored electrical tape.
So, we really want to up our game this year. Any ideas? What is everyone dressing up as this year?
