While I’m in the camp that some favorites like Ramen and Iced Coffee are great all year long, I think we can all agree that Ramen on a cool day is peak-coziness. While we can lament all day that it’s still hot out, we know sweater weather is nearly here, and the best way to celebrate (or lament) sweater weather is with a nice hot bowl of ramen. And there’s a new kid on the block: Jinya on 14th St.
But first, cocktails.
While the sake was flowing, we were excited to try some of the creative cocktails Jinya offers. We had the Rickey Tikki—a Sake Rickey—and the Dragon Whisperer, a wine spritzer with house-made Yuzu Lemonade. The Rickey Tikki was the hit at the table for sure. A refreshing cocktail with ramen is a perfect combo. And, #ProTip, if you visit Jinya for Happy Hour, you can grab these cocktails for $7.
Getting the party started.
To start, we snacked on the Pork Chashu Mini Tacos; they are super cute with a wonton shell! We also tried the Tempura Brussel Sprouts and Pork Gyoza (potstickers). These bites were all super sharable too, a great start to the experience.
The ramen is primarily the Tonkotsu style (pork bone based), but offerings include chicken or vegetable as well. Note: there is a vegan ramen option as well. As the popularity of Ramen in the district has taught most of us living here, a key element in Ramen is the noodle. An interesting angle you’ll find at Jinya is they have a variety of noodle types: (thin, thick, extra thick and spinach). We tried the Tonkotsu Black Ramen and the Chicken Ramen. The Chicken ramen needed some add-ons in my opinion, but they have a good selection of those as well to customize your experience.
Shoutout to the staff.
Finally, I have to mention the wonderful hospitality at Jinya. We were here for a special event, not a regular day, but the servers were busy, and they made time to offer suggestions on the drinks, answer any questions, and our server was even hugging people goodbye we were leaving. The service really made Jinya stand out for me. We’ll be back for sure!
